Boracay Trip 2016

Three days in Boracay with friends. Sun, sand, and not nearly enough time to see everything the island has to offer.

Boracay had been on my list for years, and in 2016 I finally made it happen. A few friends and I booked a trip and set off for what turned out to be one of the best weekends of the year.

Getting There

Getting to Boracay involves a flight to Caticlan (or Kalibo if you're on a budget airline), then a short boat ride to the island. The journey is part of the experience — the boat approaches the island and you can see the white sand and turquoise water from a distance. First impressions: this place is real, and it's as good as the photos.

White Beach

White Beach is the main attraction, and it absolutely lives up to the hype. The sand is fine and white, the water is crystal clear, and the beach stretches for kilometres. We spent most of our first day just walking along the shore, grabbing drinks from the bars that line the beach, and taking it all in.

The vibe is a mix of relaxation and party — you can find quiet spots to chill or bars with music and crowds, sometimes within walking distance of each other.

The Sunsets

Boracay sunsets are something else. Every evening, the sky puts on a show — oranges, pinks, purples reflecting off the water. People gather along the beach with drinks in hand to watch it. It's the kind of thing you can't really capture in a photo, no matter how good your camera is.

Activities

Three days was not enough time. Between island hopping, parasailing, jet skiing, and just lounging on the beach, we barely scratched the surface. If you're planning a Boracay trip, I'd recommend at least four days to actually do things at a relaxed pace rather than rushing between activities.

The Food

Filipino food on the island is exactly what you'd expect — generous, flavourful, and affordable. From fresh seafood grilled right on the beach to local Filipino staples like adobo and sinigang, the food alone is worth the trip.

Would I Go Back?

Absolutely. Boracay is one of those places that lives up to the hype and then some. The natural beauty is genuine, the people are welcoming, and the overall vibe is exactly what you want from a tropical getaway. Three days was great, but next time I'm staying longer.
